ORIENT BANK - PROBABLY THE MOST INNOVATIVE BANK IN UGANDA Orient Bank is a leading private sector commercial bank in Uganda.
Our steady growth over the last 26 years can be attributed to our professional management and prudent lending and investment policy. Probably one of Uganda’s most innovative banks, Orient bank pioneered Point of Sale (POS) technology in Uganda in 2005 which ushered in the use of plastic debit cards.
The Bank has continued its innovation drive, creating solutions around our customer needs. In 2015, Orient Bank launched the Visa Infinite Card, the ultimate in cards, an exclusive service that is designed to give customers more wherever they are anywhere in the world. Among the many benefits of the Visa Infinite Card is multi-trip travel insurance of up to $1,000,000 and access to thousands of airport lounges around the world. Later that year Orient Bank began acquiring MasterCard at all our ATMs and Point of Sale machines.
UnionPay card acquiring was launched this year. In 2017 Orient bank launched Xpresspay, a payment gateway that enables local businesses to receive international payments directly to their accounts by simply integrating Xpresspay into their websites. Xpresspay now accepts VISA, MasterCard and Unionpay cards. Funds are settled in both Uganda shillings and US dollars.
A multitude of local tours and travels businesses as well as hotels rely on the gateway to receive tourist and guest bookings from their home countries before they travel to Uganda. Government of Uganda also relies on the gateway to receive Visa and work permit fees as well as tax revenue through Uganda Revenue Authority. As the bank celebrated 25 years in July 2018, it launched Fastpay, the first ever mobile phone based application that allows customers to open accounts and carry out transactions without coming to the bank.
It also enables transfer of money between accounts for free, payment of bills at only UGX 500 no matter the size of the bill and capability to save and earn interest on funds as low a as UGX100 for a day, a week, or a month. With the change of law, Orient Bank was one of the first banks to obtain Bancassurance licence to sell insurance services. This has created an additional service opportunity for its customers who can now do all their banking and insurance business at Orient Bank. It has also gone a step further to create a combined life and health insurance product, Medilife that enables affordable monthly insurance premiums of only UGX5,900 per person with no limit to one’s beneficiary list.
